Founder Story: Why Clinical Psychology?
Inside Dr. Jones’ 15 plus year academic and clinical training career, he attributes his calling toward the field of mental health as a “true alignment of vocation.” Dr. Jones stated that after many years in the theater, film, and television industry, “I finally listened to nudging from my soul and the deepest parts of my heart and pursued psychological work full-time.”

Dr. Jones attributes much of his professional growth to his clinical training and former extensive career as a professional young actor, teacher, playwright, and stage director. In the process of transitioning career fields, Dr. Jones specified, “My past career as a performing artist gave me a unique perspective on how to deeply understand and effectively work with creative and complex personalities and emotions. My life experiences prepared me well to really see people, relate to their afflictions, hear their life stories, and appreciate the deepest intricacies of human nature."

Dr. Jones received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Biola University, a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University and completed his PhD in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute.

While completing his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, Dr. Jones spent approximately 3 years (pre-doctoral) years training in psychoanalytically/psychodynamically oriented therapy at Rose City Counseling Center. Dr. Jones then completed a 1-year psychological assessment externship at Hillsides Family Center, a 1-year Postdoctoral Fellowship at Occidental College, and a concluded a 2-year post-doctoral internship at La Vie Psychology Group (an intersubjective-psychoanalytically oriented internship site).

Dr. Jones is a licensed clinical psychologist, as well as Chair and Assistant Professor in the Clinical Psychology program at Pacifica Graduate Institute. In 2016 was awarded the APA Division 39 Multicultural Concerns Scholar Award. His clinical interests are contemporary psychoanalytic theory and practice (i.e., relational and intersubjective), Jungian psychotherapy approaches (e.g., individuation, persona, self, shadow work), multicultural psychology (e.g., ethnoracial/ethnocultural identity formation processes), creative imagination, expressive arts, and humanistic theoretical approaches (e.g., Maslow’s self-actualization /transcendence theories).

Her clinical focus includes working with individuals and couples who have experienced early relational trauma—particularly those raised in environments that lacked emotional consistency, stability, or supportive structure. Dr. Zaki has a particular passion for growthful living and she is deeply committed to helping clients build their own path towards growthful living by nurturing their true and authentic selves, cultivating emotional resilience, and fostering meaningful, fulfilling relationships.
